Oh ya that looks like a male .... Nope try again
« on: June 23, 2013, 01:16:36 PM »
So I have been out of the fish game for years I set up a tank 9 months ago and that grew and grew i now have 6 tanks up. I bought a red peacock at a small size I never kept cichlids before. I was drawn to their colors and behavior. I received a lot of bad advice and trial and error and research I feel I got it down pretty well. I bought a few fish and decided to keep some of them I was told it was a male and it is still small about 2 1/2 inches. Well needless to say I woke up this morning and he is a she and holding and no idea who the daddy is lol. Looks like I will have to call Maury. I have a 10 gallon set up with nothing in it so I took her out and put her in there. This is the first time I have ever had a fish hold any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys and gals

Chris

As a unwelcomed Hybrids, Please be responsible with them & do the right thing.... free feeders!  :P
There are plenty of hybrids already out there. Get a Flowerhorn ;)

But on the bright side you know you're taking good care of your fish, if they're spawning.

Ya that's a welcoming sight to know they are healthy but yes it looks like my oscars and green terror will have a little snack.

Thank you.

I have also had to do this with a few accidents early on.

Yes I am feeding the hybrids I guess I was looking for advice on what to do since this is my first female holding not knowing exactly what to do and I don't want to harm her in any way, but I will look it up online

Best thing?  Strip her of her eggs before they develop any more. That way she won't go through the stress of brooding them & you can still feed the eggs to something else.

I agree strip her now if you never done it before Chris give me a call and I'll walk you
thru it or I can come over and show you.
