Dwarf Cichlids
« on: May 28, 2013, 12:56:55 PM »
Any opinions on them?

I don't know a thing.  That might even be too broad of a question?

African dwarfs would be like the pelvicachromis variants.  SA dwarfs you have apistos, checkerboards, some smaller acaras.  CA dwarfs...not many (any?) true dwarfs but a few stay smaller (under 4").  It really depends on what you want as far as color, behavior, water requirements (e.g. checkerboards spawn in the wild in PH4 IIRC?, but sometimes do OK in MI water), tankmates, and so on.

African dwarfs could also include the various shellies and perhaps some of the smaller lamprologus or mbuna depending on how small you contain "dwarf" to be.

Ah yes, good point.  Forgot the shellies (ironically since I have some).

Some day I think I would like a tank.  No room now, but I just want to research some more to find out what I like.

do you know if you are leaning towards african or south american dwarfs? i think both are pretty cool in their own right and there is alot out there. if your thinking south american, apistos are good tank mates for communities and planted tanks. africans can go a lot fiestier but IMO more brillant coloring (for the most part). i look forward to seeing what you come up with.
I have about 18,000 rounds of .223 I'm  looking to get rid of, 100 rd bags. 1-4 bags $40 ea, 5-9 bags $38 ea, 10 or more bags $35 ea. I can't put this in the for sale section, its not fish related. No shipping.

I often here many pseudotropheus referred to as dwarf cichlids.  Maybe specific a bit.
