Clown loach - max size?
« on: March 25, 2013, 10:41:39 PM »
I picked up 2 clown loaches (not jumbo), 2" and the other 2.5".
How big can I expect them to get?  If you have some, how large are your clowns?

thanks

See this:  http://www.loaches.com/species-index/clown-loach-chromobotia-macracanthus

I'm surengrizzlysDad has better firsthand info or sources but per that site 12 inches is not unreasonable after a number of years.

Clowns will grow fairly quickly up to the 5" mark or so, then it takes them a very long time to reach max size. Typically 12" but I have heard that some have reached nearly 16" in captivity...never seen that personally though.
I have a large group of Clowns ranging from a few small fish around 5" up to a few of the biggest at 10"+

I have a pair that are 10 inches and don't appear to be putting much more length on. They eat like pigs and get fat but seem to be stuck at this size.
