Ruby Green Hap.?
« on: March 05, 2013, 10:51:53 AM »
Sorry i have not posted in a while have been at school. I heard some of the auctions have been awesome wish i could have gone. But back to the point I have a 75 gallon aquarium at home with 1 Heros efasciatus (super red) 1 Ctenopoma Acutirostre, 1 Butis Butis, 1 EBJD, 3 Geo. Abalios, L114 or L600 pleco, L128 pleco, starry night eel, leporinus arcus. Now i have a pair of Lake Victorian Hap. Obliqudens 3in male 2.5in female at school with me in a 55 gallon and they are living with a crenicichla lepidota(i believe)6in 2 medium size silver dollars and no one is picked on and i used to have a variety of other africans but got rid of them for a brycon dentex but he passed last week from bloat(thats another story) I talked to people and they said that the 75 would do just fine with the obliqudens. So if they will work then im considering getting some ruby green hap. im just wondering what everyone thinks? if i should take someone out or should i not do anything or what. But I really would like to get these ruby green haps and have the obliqudens as well.(i have victorian/african cichlid fever now)

Your paragraph is quite confusing.  I think you're asking if you can put the obliqs in the 75 and then put the ruby green haps in the 55?  With your current stocking?

I'm not a big fan of mixing all kinds of random fish, but that's just me perhaps.

I have a feeling (not from experience) that the EBJD is going to get picked on by the obliquendens if you put them in the 75.  And/or you will upset the current balance.

What sizes are the fish currently in the 75?  Full grown I think you're going to be overstocked already in the 75.  If they're small, you might get by for a while.

sorry to confuse it was alot of fish and 2 different tanks. When school is over this year i am going ot bring home the Obliqudens and would like to put them in my 75, I also would like to put the rubys in the 75. The size of my fish in my 75: ebjd is about 3in, the Ctenopoma is 4in, the eel is a small 6in(no threat), the severum is 5in, the butis butis 3in, the geos(are growing like weeds) 2 females are 3.5in, and the male prolly 4.5in, the leporanus is 5in, and then the plecos are between 2in and 4in   The 55 is my friend's at school which he will bringing home this summer. From your answer I will look to get another tank so that i can start up a victorian tank i just didnt want to get rid of the victorians i had now. Also, the reason the whole thread was created was because i had a good deal on ruby greens but seems i will just pass for now. better safe then sorry. thank you for your insight linuxrulesusa and Jenna I do appreciate the help  :)

I don't know that I would mix victorians in the same tank.  I am currently breeding 4 different species of victorians and they all have their own tank, however in my 75 gallon I have mostly malawians and a pair of nyereri.  Certain malawians can mix with certain victorians given the tank size.  In my smaller 30 gallon tanks with my vics, those are just species only.
