Broken center brace
« on: August 27, 2012, 10:30:55 PM »
Ok so moving my 180 by myself wasnt the easiest since my tailgate is a good 3 1/2 feet off the ground i grabbed the center brace when I slipped picking it up. it looks like the actual part that goes in the middle of the tank is 3 pieces and they are just glued together or something. I went over it with plastic weld and did it on the other one just to be safe then I let that set up and went over it with silicone just to be better safe than sorry.  what other options do I have can I get some thick acrylic and glue that onto the existing brace for more support?

On a tank that size I would never even chance a "field repair". I would just order a new full frame and not worry about it blowing out some day. Here's the important part to think about...it's not the mess of 180g of water, all your fish, and whatever decorations you might have ending up on the floor....it's the chance of you, or someone you care about standing in front of it admiring your fish when that front glass blows out and cuts anything in it's way in half.

Yeah I hear you on that. I was already on the phone with the guy who builds tanks for us and he said if the plastic didnt break that it can be glued back together because his center braces for a tank that size are 6 piecs 4 being the outside going into the center then another bottom piece that is glued in to connect the center braces. I think i should be good on this on but if not he will get me the stuff to replace it. He said making a new one out of acrylic will work too if I wanted to do that since i have a ton of 1/2" acrylic and weldon on the store.
