This is the LFS closest to me.  They specialize in community fish as they have lots of kids/families coming in.  Prices are decent for those type fish.  Other fish are hit and miss.  They have a few L# plecos, a few larger fish, but like I said mostly community fish.  They also are great for getting cheap feeders for reptiles (frogs/snakes/etc).   Which I no longer have any of, but for a while I was going in at least once a week.

I seen the craziest thang while at this store. Me and one of the younger employees were feeding their larg marine tank which housed a morri ell.  This fish came from the bottom of the tank all the way to the top about 5inches out of the water and died. We looked at it it had some weird sores all over its underside I've never seen any thang like this in my life every time I go in ther there is dead fish in the tanks. Miss labled and so on.  But great if you need dry goods. Or filter media pump parts. Id never buy a fish there I have so much credit id be willing to give it to someone being as all you can do is get free fish with their credit which is a nice store policy they give you free fish for spending X amount of dollars. On anythang.

Hmm I would say letting a customer feed fish in a store is kind of bad practice seeing as you can be monkeying with your car have oil on your hands and then transfer that from your hands to the food. Especially feeding a fish that can tank a finger off in a heart beat. Chances are the sores were from bristle worms.

I must clarify I was not feeding the fish myself. As for the sores. On a fish that cost a few hundred bucks. Somthing is wrong there. As for the way it died in a instant. Was the strangest thang I've ever seen

They have a fish club. You have to ask about it. For every $60 you spend in the store (even non fish related items) you get $5 credit toward fish

There really is no better place for getting a reasonable trade-in offer for your fish / fry downriver than critters in Allen Park. However, you have to do two things. First, ONLY deal with Mike...he is there on Wednesdays, and generally call him first to see if he has room in their tanks for what you're wanting to trade in.  Mike will generally give you 50% of what the fish are going to sell for on the floor, this is a general figure of course since everything depends on size, quality, and the demand. Your not going to do awesome on electric yellow lab fry for example, but you will still do very well. I remember a couple of years back bringing him in some very large albino tin foil barbs, I expected only $7 to $10 each and Mike ended up giving me $20 each for them! When I asked him why, he said "It's simple, I'm going to sell them for easily twice that." Ever since that day, I will only deal with Mike, and he always give me a great trade-in value when there is tank space available in the store for what I want to bring in.

I stopped going earlier this year.  Dirty tanks, smells and never seen any warning about buying fish that are clearly sick.

I have always had a good experience at Critters.  I have been going there for 30+ years.
