General question about Plecos
« on: February 08, 2016, 12:07:16 PM »
I have stayed away from larger plecos because of space and ammonia production. The dwarf plecos seem to need extra care with zucchinni feeding. Do dwarf bristlenose eat algae off of the glass? It would be worth it for me to get zucchinni for them extra if they cleaned up the algae on the glass.

Most bristlenose do a good job at eating algae and cleaning the glass on tanks. I usually keep at least 2-3 BNP in each of my larger tanks (some have more) and I feed them mostly pellets/flake/wafers then zucchinni once every two weeks.

Mine do great with keeping the glass clean.  Not so much with something like hair algae.   Feed mine algae tabs and plecocaine.  Green beans and zucchini are a treat.  When preparing to spawn I drop some earthworm sticks in for the ladies.  They will eat almost any aquarium food that they find but are primarily veggie eaters.

They eat the algea faster than it grows. I give mine frozen shrimp when i notice they are getting ready to breed.
