Looking for some ideas
« on: October 15, 2016, 01:27:31 PM »
Looking for some ideas on stocking a smaller tank. You guys know me if I don't have some sort of project going on then I get bored and it's been a good 6 months since I finished my last project (6ft frontosa tank) so the creative bug in me is getting real bored. Problem is funds are limited at this time of year (fall/winter is my slow season for my business) so don't have the funds (or space left) to do a big tank project. What I do have though is a 29g tank that I have been breeding BNP in and I am currently selling off the remaining plecos so I will have that 29g setup empty very soon.

So here's what I have been thinking. Most you guys know the view in my office/shop looking this way....

But standing in the same spot and looking 180 degrees the other way is this view....A nice view but something is missing, a tank  ;D

So what I am considering is taking that smaller 29g tank and raising up to about 43" high so it is above the back height of the chair, and building it flush into the wall. I think that might make for a nice look in the office looking that way, and wouldn't be hard because the other room behind that wall is the work shop so the I could easily do the in wall mount and finish the backside off nicely as well.

Trying to think though if I do it then what would be nice looking and active to stock in it. Since it's only 29g that rules out most cichlids other than shellies or a pair of Angels, but I'm not a huge shellie fan, and I already have a 20g tall angle tank so don't want a 2nd angel tank. Anyone got any ideas/suggestions on what might be nice in there if I do this?

That's an interesting idea, I hadn't thought of Rams. Never had them before but I know there are some really nice colorful ones out there. If I did that how many would be okay in a 29g? Pair? Do they tolerate any other fish in their territory?

I've had a couple pairs in a 20 gal before with no problems.

Well decided to go a different way. Still doing a tank in that spot, but something I have been wanting to for a long time that will "complete" all the species I have been wanting to keep since I got back into this hobby 4 years ago. Will have to wait till I start the build thread in a bit to see what it is going to be  ;D
