Sponge Filter?

This may seem like a silly question here. I'm wondering how the sponge filters whatever size it may be, stay in the bottom of the tank? Is there a weight built into them? I have never used them at all, I have only used DIY filters, or the box style filters that I put gravel in to keep them to the bottom. Thanks in advance

Depends on the style of sponge filter. The ones I have, use a suction cup to the side of the tank. Some other ones have weighted bottoms.

Once they get waterlogged they sink.  I have to squeeze them in the tank 10 or so times and then they go to the bottom.

IME, the only sponges worth getting are the hydro-sponge (or pro version). They have weighted bottoms, but you still need to initially squeeze the bubbles out. I'd suggest getting the biggest one that will fit in the tank. I buy Hydro-sponge H-V's in bulk from Jehmco.

Agreed, but I'd like to add that the Deep Blue sponges are awesome too.
