The last thing we need is to waste money on a starter, we are already stacked with good starters. Most likely Max will be gone this off season so that was why he picked up Price was to replace Max. With the addition of the new kid Lobstein who looks pretty darn good, we'll still have the best starting line up in the MLB so it would be a waste to even think about another starter with Price, JV, Sanchez, Porcello and Lobstien. What we need is an entirely new bullpen. Chamberlin and Nathan were good in their day, but now are washed up and pretty much useless. Coke looks "okay" these days be he really was a train wreck for the first half, and Alburquerque is one of those guys that is very inconstant. If he's on then he's almost unhitable, but when he's off he's really off.
I had good expectations for Asumus when the year started, but my hopes for him have went down more and more with each game this season until the latest dumb call he made which cost us game two the other day. No one in their right mind should take out a pitcher (Sanchez) that has only thrown 30 pitches and not allowed a hit in two innings to put in a pitcher (Chamberlin) who could not even record a single out the previous game. The O's fans gave a standing ovation when he took out Sanchez and brought in Chamberlin because every person in that stadium knew what was about to happen. The only one that did not know was Ausmus. He's shown me he is nothing but a younger version of the ol' coot Jim Leyland with his "Set up man in the 8th no matter what" way of managing. Asumus had the tools to win game 2 by leaving Sanchez in at least through the 8th, but he stubborness to adhere to his set in stone pitching changes lost us that game.
If a manager would mange the pitching staff with common sense and only take out a pitcher when the pitcher gives you a reason to take him out then we might actually have a shot at the WS. Until then we are gonna be stuck barely making it to the post season.
