Sure they can be. But given the chance they can and will kill other fish. I have one that will bite the heads off of smaller peacocks( i mean 4") or kill and fish that has stripes. So Taiwan reefs and VC-10's don't do so well with him. You run the risk no matter what really.

ive had similar issues with a 8" front. i bought him and after a month or so i kept having damaged fish all the time and he killed a few. there not happy being by themselves  they want to be in groups similar to clown loaches.. big difference is an unhappy loach dies  and un happy front kills
