Male Ram Cichlid
« on: November 18, 2013, 06:36:26 AM »
Hi,

I'm looking for a male ram cichlid for a 90 gallon community tank.  I would like to try to breed him with an electric blue female.  I would prefer a wild Bolivian strain.

Thanks

They had a single wild Columbian Ram last time I was at fantastic fins.

Just wondering what your trying to acheive a hybred ram?

The last time I bought fish from Fantastic fins they died.  I bought four angelfish from them.  Two died and I want back to replace them.  I got two more and then all four died.  Fins has fish I have never even heard of, but they do not seem healthy.  I was hoping to find a local ram breeder, or someone that has one and wants to dump him.

Are you looking for M. Ramirezi, or M. Altispinosa?
The Electric Blue color morph is usually Ramirezi, and the Bolivian Rams you are asking about are Altispinosa.

I'd like to find a male electric blue ram, Microgeophagus ramerizi.  I thought they are the same species.  Do you know if Microgeophagus ramerizi and Mikrogeophagus altispinosus have breed?  Thanks for the information.

The chances are very slim that they will breed together.  Why would you want that anyways.  Also breeding the electric blue variant of German blue rams is a bit more challenging then the regular variant which isn't particular easy in itself.

Good point.  Does anyone have a male electric blue ram for trade?
