Female fry mix up?
« on: November 06, 2013, 10:12:14 AM »
Just wondering on something...

Say you have a couple females holding, all the same species, in a 20 gallon tank.  Say one of the females spits a couple (or all) out... would one of the others suck them in?

We've seen fish spit them out and suck them back in when they notice us watching... pretty common.  Just wondering is there could be a mix up in fry with multiple females all holding.

Not that it would really be an issue.

I've read of females intentionally picking up other fish's fry with their own.
The theory says that the more fry you are carrying, the less likely your own fry will be consumed.

I've seen that happen within the same species. (Don't really put myself in a position to see it across species).
