Christmas Fulu Fry care
« on: November 05, 2013, 10:44:41 PM »
My female christmas fulu spit over 50 fry a couple weeks ago. they're about .25" this is the first time i've ever had a female successfully hold and spit her fry of any cichlid. It seems that the fry are slowly dying off, however. I'm down to only a couple that I can see. They're in a 10 gallon tank with a sponge filter, java moss, water around 78. I'm feeding them the same food as their parents just crushed. it's ocean nutrition formula 2 flakes. Any tips for next time? I'm hoping they'll spawn again soon

They will spawn again, most Vic's are very good spwaners.  How often were you feed them?

Have you checked your water conditions?

Also, may want to bump the temp a couple degrees.

I've never had problems with fulu fry or noticed them being more sensitive than any other victorian fry. At that size, I'd have probably kept them in a net breeder within the tank until they were .5"+ to limit the amount of food waste/help them find it easier. Are you sure they are eating? I've always fed crushed flake to small fry.

Was the filter you used already seeded? I've seen this on way too many times.

I thought about that too, but unless he's over feeding or never doing a single waterchange, there's no way 40 .25" fish are polluting the water that fast.
