Fish must have taste buds :)
« on: August 31, 2013, 12:26:14 PM »
So I think fish must have taste buds, at least my aristochromis christyi and syno hybrids.  When I put flake in, the aristo go for it with gusto and the syno's ignore it.  With NLS pellets, the syno's come out and vacuum the gravel like crazy, but the aristo's don't want it.

Though that was funny.  Everyone is growing well, so they must get enough, even when they seem to skip a feeding.

I'm not sure about taste buds, but they do have a sense of smell.

If they can't  taste Blair why would they put it in ther mouths chew it a bit and spit it back out?

I'm not saying they don't have taste buds. But, I'm sure texture plays a part in that.

Agree with the smell part.  The syno's don't come out right way when I put the pellet in.  Think they have to have some sort of taste buds when they are picky about different types of flake food,

I think texture ranks higher than taste based on my experience.

Agreed.  You would have to give that fish some BIG pellet food, or a steak.

For sure they have a preference... some of ours eat the flakes, and others skip it and wait for the New Life to be dropped in.
