Cleaning stains on glass

Well it seems there is no cure for the addiction of being a fishoholic, as if I needed yet another tank, I somehow managed to pick up another tank while on vacation of all things from a yardsale couldn't beat the price and all the stuff that came with it. The tank has white residue on the glass which I am guessing are old hard water stains. What's the best way to clean this off the glass so it stays gone?

If it's crusted on there, soak as much as you can in water for awhile and then try using a razor blade to scrape it off.  You can also apply white vinegar to the area and that will help as well.

If it's really bad, you can try diluted muriatic acid, but you have to be very careful with it.

What Marty said.  Razor blade worked great for me the other day for the white crust that you get when the water level isn't all the way to the rim.

Thanks guys, I filled it and it's soaking right now so after an hour or so I'll see if I can get it off with some razors.

Nothing special Emil, while on vacation I stopped at a garage sale and ended up getting a 29g tank with a few lights/heaters/hoods/filters etc etc. The stuff was dirty but everything worked and the person having the sale was moving and just wanted to get rid of everything so I got everything for the whooping price of FREE. So I'm just cleaning everything up. Will probably end up putting it down in the office with the big 265g tank. Not sure what I am gonna stock it with as of yet, was thinking maybe shellies, or a pair of Calvus, or maybe even giving the beta and Cory cats it as a new home so he'd be the happiest beta in the world, or dunno yet, open to suggestions as well.
