Nature finds a way.
George Barlow tells about a Jack Dempsey female that laid fertilized eggs. I guess She was the only fish in the enclosure. IIRC it was in his book " Cichlids, nature's grand experiment "

Jay Stauffer mentioned this in his program down at the OCA Extravaganza.
I believe I have read elsewhere that the fish do not change sexes, they just develop both male and female reproduction ability. IIRC, it is called gynandromorphism, similar to hermaphroditism.

Funny I observed this many years ago with Auratus and people told me it was impossible and I was crazy ( see the were only half right !)
