Best Pets
« on: January 15, 2013, 01:23:28 AM »
Okay...I hate to give bad reviews or talk bad about places, but I have no choice here because I'd hate to see someone go here.

Best Pets at 12 miles and dequindre. I use to buy cichlids from here as well as my Ferret back in the late 80's/early 90's. had not been there since. I stopped in last Friday for the first time in 20 yrs.....Wow...have they went down Big Time. The shop is dirty, the tanks are VERY dirty, there was a lizard lose on the wall behind the aquarium wall they didn't even know about. Maybe I'm getting old but the guys there are "sketchy" at best with their tattoos and attitudes at best. Honestly I hate to say bad about a place, but I would not suggest this place now to my worst enemy :(

That was my impression also.  Stopped in for the first time in about 15 years about a month ago, to think they used to be one of the top in the area.

Not anymore in my opinion.

I agree - the tanks were dreadful.  I walked in and walked out. maybe stayed a minute.  SAD !

Are the original owners still there?  One of them was the partner of Matt Benson at Pet Vendor many years back, then partnered w/another guy to open Best Pets.

The last time I was in (over a year ago).  The couple of people that I saw in there looked a little younger, so I'm guessing it's not the same person(s) you're thinking of Mike.

When I was in there, the tanks weren't horrible, but I didn't see anything that caught my eye.  To be fair, though, I don't see fish in a store very often that grab my attention.

I was just in there yesterday.  It was horrible.  Very dirty water in the tanks, and the fish all looked very unhealthy.  The two Red Devils looked to be near death.  It was very sad.  Even the bird cages were unkept.  And the prices for hardware are very high.  I will not be back.

No not judging by the tats at all, my best friend has an entire "sleeve" ....I'm judging the store by the fact it is 100% dirty, the stock (fish as well as reptiles ) are not cared for properly, and the shop on the whole is nasty now. The fact the workers are all tatted up with "gauged" ears just adds to the overall poor exp there is all. I don't judge people because they have tats, but when it's a guy that works at a pet shop that does not take care of their stock, and he is all tatted up/pierced and looks all gangster....then yeah, I'll judge him IMO. Contrary to what some people want to think, you're appearance does matter when you deal direct with the public.

I think I'm kinda offended by this tattoo talk.   I'll be sure to add if  workers are tattoo- less in my future bad reviews.  :P

I hate to chime in my 2 cents but I'm gonna have to .... The fact that the store was dirty and not taken care of has no direct effect on the fact that the workers are tattooed and gauged and to associate the appearance of someone to their work ethic is very stereotypical. I am tattooed and gauged my house my tanks are probably cleaner than most and I'm one of the hardest workers I know. Now if the guys were jerks and had crappy personalities fine but has no means of it being because they are tattooed or of different race ethnicity gender weight or any other physical attribute someone might have. Sorry this is just my opinion and think no one group should be bashed because of a couple individuals.

It's just a fact of life that people will judge based on looks. We could sit here and lie to each other and say it's not true, but we all know it is. I find it hard to believe that those with tats and piercings are gonna say that you have never judged someone based on looks? We all do it it's human nature. I simply said that the fact that these guys looked they way they did (tatted up/pierced/all black Goth clothing) especially when you are dealing direct with the public can & is a bit of a turn off for some people.

It is what it is no need to turn this into a farting match. I have tattoos and have been and am in a job where I deal with public and I am someones boss. A lot of people come in with some tattoos in silly places but I keep that to myself. There could be a lot of factors why the store is in poor shape. Maybe its not the employees it a lack of a leader being in place to get them motivated.

Exactly and by no means am I saying I have never judged anyone by the way the look you right it is human nature I'm just saying the way someone looks has no meaning of work ethic but I'm sure it didn't help the overall picture but either way no matter how the person looked the shop is a pig sty could have been anyone work I think we should just try not to judge the looks of someone and stereotype that
