filstar fx3 filter question
« on: November 21, 2012, 07:43:04 PM »
I got one with a tank I picked up and I finally got the clip I needed.

So I made a home made spray bar out of pvc, and have it all hooked up. I watched the video and I started with a empty filter, opened up the valve allowed it to fill and then turned it on.

Well It runs no leaks but its not pushing water, so I disconnected the quick release and plugged it in and water comes shooting out where it is supposed to(out take), so I reinstall and still nothing. I tried "burping" it and nothing.

Anyone have one of these? I am lost and frustrated

perhaps it doesn't put out enough pressure to go through the spray bar?  What happens if you use the stock part for the discharge?

Do you mean XP3 Rich? If so then I run three of those and sure I could help ya out. Sounds like it isn't primed, did you prime it by filling the blue "Y" intake tube with water first?

yes i mis-typed its a xp3

I dont have the actual piping that it comes with, I made a spray bar and ran new tubing. Do I need to make a part for the intake on the back of the tank where i can take the cap off and put water in?

I just hate to buy the kit for $40 when I can make it for a few bucks.

Also on the spray bar I left it open on the end, no holes drilled, will that make a difference?

Thanks

Rich

So what you are saying is the spray bar you made is just like a loc line return but you used piping instead.

You mentioned that if you take the line off for the return the water is sprays out there correct?

If it is that you are not getting enough water pressure to return the water to the tank.
Same concept of using a return pump in a wet dry. Could be that the tank is too high up maybe. Try switching out to the stock one that came with the filter and go from there.

If you bought it used for all you know someone could of Frankensteined the filter back together and it is not the right impeller for the pump so it may spin but it is not powerful enough to build the pressure inside that is needed.

I think you just need ti prime it, even if it is shooting water out when not hooked up you still may not  have enough prime. Being high up is not an issue with the XP3 it has more than enough pressure. Mine is a good 4ft from the intake tube to the top of the filter.

The open end of the spray bar should be okay because Rena gives you the spray bar and a jet nozzle to choose from so the jet nozzle is pretty much an open end so it's probably not the culprit. Rich since you don't have the "Y" piece that hangs on the back of the tank for priming which is also your intake tube as well in that one piece, what do you have on the end of the hose for an intake?

Whatever you have it hooked to then try this. Take the intake hose off and pour water down the hose till it is almost to the end of the hose, then hook it back up to whatever you are using as an intake tube and then turn on the filter. That should prime it and get the water flowing enough to get it working.
