An Introduction to Dwarf Cichlids
An introduction to the world of dwarf cichlids covering water chemistry, tankmates, and breeding, with an overview of commonly available genera and a focus on Apistogrammas.
Jessica has been keeping fish since childhood and is a long time member of the Hamilton & District Aquarium Society. She caught the cichlid bug as a teenager after bringing back her first Apistogramma from a collecting trip in the Peruvian Amazon. Over the years she has kept and bred a wide range of fish and currently works primarily with blackwater species.
Fishrooms:
Josh Cunningham
Josh Cunningham has been keeping and breeding African Cichlids for almost 20 years. He operates Cunningham Cichlids & maintains a huge fishroom in his 400sq.ft basement.
Rob Longfellow
I have been breeding and raising tropical fish for 47 years.
My first spawn was a pair of Kribs at age 13. I entered in a
fish show at Southland Mall and won first place in the family
class.
I have spawned many different species of fish from all over
the world. Some on purpose and some by accident.
At my peak, I had 40 tanks in my townhouse basement (free
water) raising live food and breeding for wholesalers and
local fish stores.
I've helped set up 2 store's tanks and filtration systems.
At this time, I have 15 tanks totaling 550 gallons.
I have Lake Tanganyika cichlids and a few plecos.
Kevin Whittenberg
Kevin has been keeping fish on/off for 20years. He has a variety of species that he maintains in approximately 40 tanks.
His ultimate goal is to only keep C.A.R.E.S. species.
Brian Yelick
I have always kept fish from my childhood until now. In the past I kept community fish. 2 years ago one of my best friends got me into African cichlids and it exploded fro there now I have 8 fish tanks and several fry tanks. I started in lake Malawi but have moved on to lake Tanganyika which is home to my favorite fish to keep... Tropheus!
As always - A BAP auction, mini auction, raffle & potluck BBQ/picnic will be at our last stop on the tour. So, please bring a dish to pass.
