I turned off the lights in my tank, though the lights in my office were still on. I wanted to use the light on my phone to look at a small cichlid I have and see if I could get any color off of it.
As soon as I turned the light back on, my dominant super red empress went crazy all over the tank. In a matter of seconds, it had lost all color and was floating at the top upside down.
It has now started breathing again and swimming awkwardly around the tank. Still not much color to it though. It's keeping itself upright, but it keeps going verticle. He doesn't have much control over his body.
Have you seen this before? I feel awful. Not like its the first time I've turned the lights off and then back on.

Reading more about it. Guess it’s not that uncommon. What a bummer.

I've seen it in bigger New Worlds a lot

He survived and was eating this morning.

Cool. Usually isn't too big a deal unless they bounce off something sharp or jump out the tank.

I've had netting a fish - i caught him and need to transfer him to another tank - as soon as I pulled him out of the tank he was dead - mouth wide open and all his fins were sticking out - weirdest thing I ever saw...
