Trying to nip a small bloat issue in the bud and want to soak some flake food in metro like I have heard people say to do. Never done that before though so how much metro do you actually use to just soak some flakes in?

Generally when my fish have gotten bloat they did not eat. I would move the infected fish into a separate tank and treat with metro on the morning then do a water change in evening and treat with metro again. I did this routine for 5 days and then usually the fish for their appetite back. I have also had to preform this treat on a whole tank a few times too and works if caught early enough.

Steve, I now carry metronidazole flake food from Neptune Aquatics and I tried some on one of my tanks of (healthy) peacocks. They readily gobbled it up but of course these are healthy fish with a normal appetite. It's possible that ailing fish won't be as eager to consume it but that goes for any foods when they're sick.
Let me know if you want a bag.
p.s. I sold quite a few bags of it from my vendor table at the MCAS auction.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Let me tell ya the reason I asked.
Had some trophs sitting on the bottom of the tank, no bloated bellies or anything, I caught the signs early I think, but some small indications of some bloat. I've already treated the whole tank a week ago with a full round of metro powder, it seemed to have helped some, but still have about 5-6 fish sitting close to bottom and not eating. Read on a trophues forum where multiple people suggested a 2nd round of treatment with Kanaplex. Kanaplex is absorbed through the skin so that's why people on the troph forum said to do a round of treatment with that so the ones that aren't eating will get some meds in them. So I've started a round of treatment with that. But just looking to feed the ones that are now better with a little extra shot of metro by soaking their food.

Steve raise the water temp to 80-82 & add 1tbsp of epsom salt per 10 gal as well. That will increase their metabolism and will help get gut motility more active. Cover tank or leave lights off for a few days to remove any other stressors.
I have had sick trophs a few times in the 8 years I have kept them. Not fun. Keep us posted mate 👍

Yep added some epsom last week and replaced it at the last WC the other day so trying to keep the epsom level steady right now. Gotta get a 2nd heater though. With this cold weather right now (tank in the basement) I can't get it above 78 with the heater that's in it right now.
