Title: Water change discoveries
Post by: Hobbiest on August 12, 2016, 03:05:15 PM
It seems to me that over the years one part of water changes is to find things that I have been missing. For example, today I did an H20 change on my 90. I added an Aquaclear 70 to the tank as it seemed like it needed more water flow. Detritus had been building up on the tank bottom which I attributed to the fish growing. Well I came to discover that my Emperor 400 was not running at all! This led to a mad dash to the pet store for new filter media. Got home and the filter wants to be loud now LOL! So the water change let to that and now the tank is way more clean in just a few hours. Happy fish I think.

I had a filter stop on me a year ago as well. Now checking to make sure all filters are running has just become something I do every morning. Joys of ocd ;D

Another h20 change discovery today. I had a few nicks on my figer tip. I was cleaning the inside glass before a water change. My finger kept hurting like electricity was shocking it. I could only feel it in the cuts on my finger so I wondered if it was just the cuts. But it was not. I started unplugging tank equipment one by one until I no longer felt the pain in my finger. Turns out it was my 250 watt Aqueon titanium heater having some sort of voltage bleed out into my tank. I am glad I caught it and so are my fish I would think.

All of a sudden (simce removing the heater)  all of my Synodontis are out swimming around the tank. They were probably feeling it worse being scaleless 🙁
