Title: Malawi: a good flake
Post by: Hobbiest on July 28, 2016, 04:51:51 PM
Hi. Some of my Malawi species were susceptible to bloat (Ps. elongatus Chewere) so I feed only spirulina. Those were the only ones I had trouble with. I keep mainly Malawi Mbuna, also I have Lithobates. Is there a decent flake that I will interest my Malawi Mbuna besides spirulina that will not give them bloat. I started feeding them Spirulina with Garlic but some of the more timid eaters are still not getting enough. Are brone shrimp or earthworm flake probably too risky for Malawi Cichids?

I wouldn't buy earthworm flake.  I've tried feeding it to my fish a couple different times (the second time was a container I won in a raffle) and my fish wouldn't touch it.

Ok. What other flakes do Mbuna like besides spirulina that won't bloat them up?

My advice would be to stick with spirulina.  If you feel like some of your fish aren't getting enough, try feeding some food, and then some more a few minutes later.
