Title: Tank Racks
Post by: Arturtle on April 08, 2016, 09:02:14 PM
I drew these up.  I don't think I ever shared them here.  I think I had some messed up dimensions, but have been building from these more or less.  Build at your own risk, let me know if you have any suggestions.

One rack was drawn for 40b's and the other was for 29g lower and 20L upper

you could probably take the middle verticals out and sub that with one on a 45 in the back to prevent swaying if you would like 3 long tanks

also since your thinking of notching the verticals I would consider 2X6

My racks are built with 2 x 4's and I don't have any issues.  I have vertical supports notched out every 3 or 4 feet, I can't recall which.  The only thing I might change would be to bring the bottom horizontal supports off the floor a little bit.  That way, if you have a spill, they're not sitting in water.

I kind of realized I probably couldn't get these out of my basement.  So, I only built half of each of these, but it's easy to scribble in a few new dimensions.  I also wanted to run the verticals high to mount lights to, but scratched that to use less wood.

The 29/20L rack I built was more wobbly than I would like, it would be good to add some structure as Kulasik suggested.

I like your suggestion as well Marty.

I'll try to post more stuff as I go if it's helpful
