I'm losing fish....water is the reason...I looking for a RO/DI unit...
-
What are you keeping?
Using RO water, you're going to need to add supplements.
-
I know...but got no choice. Water is not getting any better. I'm tired of the water filled with crap that ends up building up in the fish killing them. They give out a limited amount of water for us to drink, because the water is not safe for people to drink. Even after boiling according to bill boards and the news. But they don't give out for fish use.

Gotcha! Didn't realize you were in Flint. Sorry hun!

Figure out the gallon per day you want and go from there.

I found Bulkreefsupply.com the best place to order from.
There are many choices, you can get a good 5 stage unit for less then $150 around 75-100 gpd
Once you have one the filters are the most expensive part to replace.
You can also buy a "booster" that will help produce more output.
I know of guys in the s/w hobby that will buy the 55 gallon drums and fill those and have there water ready to go. Just add a heater and air stone.
Best of luck sir and I hope you can get help soon

Are they super-chlorinating the "non-drinking" water there? Like I said in my other post, be sure to price the membranes of the unit you choose as once the membrane is exhausted the unit is useless. Cheap at the front end may be expensive for replacement membranes etc. Do your due diligence and you should be good to go but I still think a good carbon pre-filter system would be cheaper and do the job...

Chlorine is the least of the problem. The other day...word was they were putting strong disinfectants into the system....trying to cleanup some of the sediment that is stuck in the pipes. But doing this, they are dislodging old contaminates into the system. Thus making matters worst. Plus while just patching pipes that are breaking everywhere. You couldn't drive down the streets without seeing water spraying up from breaks in the asphalt caused from another break. The breaks causes the asphalt to break up and expose the ground. When this happens, the ground washes away and you get another hole in the road. I have two holes at the end of my driveway. Can't always miss them...getting deeper. This being caused by running corrosive water through lines that should have been replaced decades ago. I have fixtures in the house that are leaking from the corrosion caused by the water that are only four years old. I hear more of what's going on about the water....that doesn't make the news. Enough to swear off drinking the water. The real problem is the system will never be safe...because they will never replace the whole system.
I want to be able to filter the water before I put it in the tanks. I'm trying to find safe barrels to store water in, to put in my basement for water changes. I looking to put a system in the kitchen for drinking or cooking and maybe to top off tanks. Then something in the basement to filter water for water changes and store it.

Large trash cans work just as well as barrels and you can find trash cans almost anywhere!
-
Yeah the brute trashcans are the best
-
I understand that chlorine is the least of your worries but it is what the 1st RO membrane removes. If water is hyper chlorinated the whole RO process is derailed in stage 1

I've had a trash cans split before...I'm looking for barrels

Another dilemma to over come....

Yea I know Mike...sorry...wasn't tryin to be a downer...with the losses you have suffered already I just didn't want insult added to injury mate...all the best in your quest...there is a solution!

I was told if I make the first chamber a carbon filter or add a pre-unit of a carbon filter I will over come this obstacle of over chlorinated water.
-
Indeed it would! I don't use an RO unit but do pre-filter with carbon for our chemically water here in Toledo...works a treat. Routine checks for chlorine on the discharge end will inform you when you need to renew the carbon.
