Title: hello everyone
Post by: drummerdude369 on August 22, 2015, 11:41:40 AM
hey, so it all started with turtles... my daughter won a local turtle durby. she took 3rd place at 7 mounths old and they were racing baby red ear'ed slidders(a painter turtle). so if u won you got to keep your turtle and of course they say that they live better in pairs.... so inevitably we adopted and took home two baby turtles. that was a little over a year ago. this past spring we upgraded them from a ten gal to a 50 gal and thats when it turned into a community tank. i added several goldfish, and they would disappear. so i had to add more, tried tetras, a small silver cat, and a few others before i found somthing they couldn't catch or see. cherry barbs are doing good in there, some other striped fish slightly longer than barbs but close color, and blue plateys... thats when it yet agin took me deeper into the hobby, the blue plateys, not only were they able to survive in the tank with turtles for over 4 mounths they paired off together. this was a big shock to me because the fish came from meijer and i never expected them to last a mounth. so now im at the local fish shops asking questions about breeding my plateys and decide to take up breeding angels. que second tank, a 20 tall currently housing 2 koi and 2 black veils, all quarter to 50 cent peice in size but not paired yet and a tiny baby ancestryious albino pleco. so this left me still needing to relocate blue plateys to breed. so i pull out the orginal 10 gal and its cracked... so i got a 35 gallon hex for them, there is two highfin blue females, 1 standard fin blue female, 2 standard fin blue males, and a 4" hyco. hoping the higfins have babys within two weeks...
next mission is redoing the community tank. bye bye goldies, hello nickel-sized  blue stripped africans, algae eaters, snails..
 and open to suggestions.
thanks for reading and feed back!

Welcome to the forum. It's nice to hear that this started with your kids. ❤️ it! My kids have their own fish in "our" tank and they help me take care of them all.

community tank upgraded from 55 to 120g. 55 is soon to be divided into a breeder tank. new 40 gallon tall stocked with young angels.
my daughter loves her pet fish, wakes up every morning and wants to feed them all. she even has to inspect every new "baby" we get for the tanks. shes not quite two yet.
