Title: My next pet
Post by: Marty on March 26, 2012, 11:12:24 PM
I think I'll just kill my wife's cat and replace it with one of these.  This is a Gambian pouch rat.  They weigh approximately nine pounds and are about the size of a raccoon.

Think she'll notice, lol?  On the serious side, they actually have trained these to detect land mines, so they're pretty intelligent.  Also, their primary diet is fruits and grains, so you don't have to worry about them chewing off your face while you sleep as long as there is cantelope in the house.

Imagine the mess if you stepped on it.

You'd need a big *ss rat trap for that one...    :D

True, if we could have every rat find a land mine. They would be the perfect pet... 8) 8) 8)

It is target practice in my neighborhood!  I don't like rats or cats.

I think you should buy one just before you move out of your condo and take it for a walk around the complex.  I would imagine that would cause heart failure if they're flipping out over your tanks  :P

Lol, I was thinking the same thing. Imagine that ;)

Another plus is I'm not far from Larry. So, I can just give it to him when I'm finished with it. Because the wife wouldn't be having it :P

Regal...It will have a forever home here!!

On a side note... I just read a thread about these this morning on one of the snake forums I visit. They are illegal I have most states. Right now Florida has a problem with wild populations of them.

Florida should hire a pi - eyed piper to lead them into the everglades and let the the millions (tongue in cheek number) of Burmese pythons take care of them.

Man, I've seen bigger alley rats working in some of the buildings in downtown Detroit.
I guess that's why my philosophy regarding any rat is they are
ALL VERMIN NEEDING EXTERMINATION!!!

Besides Marty, that rat would kick your Rottie's arse

Maybe it was one of those I saw when I was visiting my mom in NYC this past Thanksgiving. Thing was huge!!! I mean, I grew up there so I'm used to seeing them...but this one was HUGE!!! Easily the biggest one I ever saw.

I remember seeing more than one rat that size when I was stationed at Staten Island.  We'd go over to the city to party on the weekends and you'd see some huge ones around the subway tracks.

I never saw one as huge as THAT one...maybe since I haven't lived there in 15+ years I'm more susceptible to the shock again. Lol.

Man I would love to get a few of these, but I currently have around 80 adult breeder rats and anywhere from 100-150  young of all sizes, not to mention around 800-900 mice just would not have the time to devout to them.
