Title: Site outage
Post by: Marty on August 30, 2011, 12:26:22 PM
In case you didn't get my email update, the site was down while I was waiting for some changes to go through at godaddy.com.

Now you can get to the site by typing any of these:

michigancichlid.com

michigancichlid.net

michigancichlid.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php

I wish.  My laptop crashed on Saturday as well, so I was trying to figure out what was going on with that as well.  In order to start it after a shutdown now, I have to remove the battery from the motherboard wait 5 minutes and replace it.

Fortunately I've been able to back everything up to an external drive so I didn't lose anything.  Now I just have to take it in and find out if it's worth repairing, or if I have to spend some dough to replace it.

I recommend a lot of machines due to my job at MSU Libraries.
Some, not all by any means, of the "back to school" $329.00 machines are worth having.

My current criteria, since they are so similar is to go to www.crucial.com and find out what the maximum memory the notebook can handle. Older tech, even with Windows 7, can only handle 2, 3 or 4 gig. New tech can handle 8 gig and up. It may sell with 2 gig, but you can add more if you need it.

They all should have a 1 year manufacturers warranty and an option to pay for 2 additional years. That cuts out many of the BestBuy notebooks. BestBuy purchases machines without a manufactures warranty. They make their profit by selling extended warranties that can be a real pain to deal with.
