Title: I'm new

Hi my name is Yolanda.   I'm new to this organization, new to owning an aquarium and new to owning cichlids.   I put out in the universe that I would love to have an aquarium.  By shear coincidence I met someone who spoke about donating his 80 gal tank with the accessories to Purple Heart.  I indicated my interest and he said if I could get someone to move it I could have it.  I made the arrangements to do just that two weeks ago. 
I first attempted to get a professional to come to my home and set it up.  The two people I contacted were no shows.  I decided I would set the tank up myself.  I read information on the Internet, went on YouTube and made several trips to my local fish store.   I took a bag of the accessories to the fish store and they help me determine what I could use and needed to replace.   
 After having my water tested, I decided I would do a trial run with goldfish.  After a week, I had my water tested again and finally made up my mind to set up an African Cichlic tank.  Sunday, May 2, I officially became a Cichlic owner!!!!!

 It's good to see somebody doing research before buying. You can learn something new everyday in this hobby, enjoy!

Welcome and congratulations. I assume that you served and thank you for that. I hope that you are using the VA and all of the service organizations.

Welcome to the forum!!!  We've got a pretty good group of people here who will help you out with any questions.  What African Cichlids did you end up with?

My wife and I have a pretty nice selection of Africans that we breed. Check out our Facebook site

Welcome from one new member to another! I only have 6 months experience with African Cichlids so I'm just now learning myself. This seems to be a great forum. Good luck in the hobby!
