As, a lot of you know. I am sole caretaker of my Mother who has Alzheimer's with other ailments. Things being wrong with the furnace and such. There was a highlight moment today. My Mother doesn't have clarity often at night...suffers from Sundowners too. Well, tonight I fixed her a cheeseburger and while I was feeding her. I had gotten her one of the bottle/cans of Coke...she doesn't get soda as a rule because the caffeine doesn't sit well with her meds and influences her behavior toward meanness. She took a drink and ate some more burger. Took another drink and looked at me and said "What is that?" I said "it's Coke. You've had it before" She then said "Wow that tastes great with the burger" She ate all the burger and wanted to save some of the Coke for later because it was so good. She generally fights with me about eating..she never wants to eat....part of the Alzheimer's problem. Times like this makes the rest of the day not so bad. Just wanted to share...Thanks for letting me.
Mike

I lived with my grandpa for a few years while I went through my divorce. He had Alzheimer's & dementia... definitely some trying times, but also some hilarious moments also.
Hopefully you'll have more times like your story above.

Taking care of your mom must take lots of patience, fortitude, and self-sacrifice. I can tell by your post how much you love her. I really admire that. Hang in there, and I'm glad you had a happy moment with her. I wish you many more.

WOW, Mike that's great. It's interesting how when life (IMO, really satan) tries to get to our spirit, the simplest thing can feel like such a blessing. I too, hope that you have more moment likes this. Maybe try caffeine free coke next time. ;o)

That is a great moment to cherish in an otherwise difficult time. My dad is going through something like that now.
