Title: MCAS auction
Post by: Regalblue on February 21, 2015, 10:19:19 AM
So, I'm laid up in bed with bronchitis or pneumonia & a horrible sinus infection (? I'm too stubborn to actually go to the doctor ) & not able to get to the auction today.

This means I have to live vicariously through you guys...

Let's see some pictures & lists of what you're picking up. ;)

Not sure of the total bags Blair. Nothing like couple weeks ago. If I had to guess I would say about 500 ish.

hahahaha!  That's the way it goes,  Jeremy.   Would've been good though,  because MCAS auctions are known to have a good selection of tanks & dry goods.

500 is good. It's always great to see successful auctions from all the clubs.

Lol, Sounds like April would've been spending some good cash.

and bags of OB Peacocks
I heard Jimmy alone took 20bags of OBs.  So, at least there was some good quality mixed in.

There's Greater Detroit Aquarium Society's auction coming up on March 7th. They have dry goods too, just not as many as MCAS.

So much for the 5 of the same item limit  ::).  I bought a bag of 8 at the end for $3...co-workers are always looking for cheap fish to kill.

800items is great. A LOT better than 500. ;)

Maybe I misheard & it was 20 fish?  Either way - when dealing with OB Hybrids you can always have the BBs, DB OBs,  reg OBs, etc.  So, it's easy to get past the 5bag limit using the color morph clause & you know Jimmy is picky as hell about his OBs.  He doesn't just buy any ones he sees & is selective of what he breeds.

Exactly what I was thinking. When you breed hybrids, you can just make *@&# up to get past that 5 bag limit.  :P

Twas my first time attending and it was neat to see such a wide variety of fish. The number of african hybrids made my go "whoa" for a minute, then i remembered it's allowed.

Left with a couple more additions for the show tank, some E. melanogenys, and a small group of L. sp. "Red Cap".

Its a bummer they allow the hybrids cause we all know damn well they will eventually end up and a MCA auction...

We do a good job of weeding them out, Although a few bags have slipped through in the past.

Oh I know but what I'm getting at is people will think that it's acceptable to breed and sell hybrids.

Solid auction overall. The crowd wasn't as large as the MCA auction two weeks prior but they had a nice selection of animals to choose from. Lots of OBs and Petricolas. I was sitting near that guy in the red shirt in the photo above and I think he was helping to bid up the prices on his friends stuff.  He would begin to shake his right leg when he was bidding on something he didn't want. (Not sure how I noticed that). It was quite amusing. He almost got caught taking a bag in his effort to drive the price up. I found that a bit unsportsmanlike but then... there are no friends at auctions. LOL Blair you were missed.
