Title: Important please read
Post by: Steve on February 07, 2015, 03:13:15 AM
I Pm'ed all those whom I was picking up fish from tomorrow but I am posting this here as well just to be sure you guys that had the fish see it.

Last night about 10pm my 265g started a slow leak. It's 3am right now and I'll probably be up another 3 hrs or more draining the tank and trying to net fish and find room for them hopefully in my other tanks. I hate to say it but I wont be able to pick up any of the fish I had planned on tomorrow and won't be able to be at the auction.

This is the 3rd time this tank has leaked on me now. I've tried and tried to get it fixed and thought I had it beat this time since it held water for over a month but obviously it's clear that it's just not to be. I believe it may be time for me to throw in the towel on all this.

I truly hope those that holding fish for me to pick up tomorrow understand how bad I feel about not being able to take them now but I simply don't even have room for my own fish now that I have to take them out of the 265g.

Blair since I won't be at the auction I hope you or someone else can swing by my house and get the background I made for the raffle tank. I only live a mile or two from the auction. I will email you right now.

NOOOOOOOOooooooo!!!!!!!!!

DAMN IT!!! This is absolutely rotten news Steve. If my little fish room could handle taking your fish for safekeeping I would be heading over right this minute.
I know this is difficult to see a bright side in this happening again but at least the leak didn't start AFTER the auction and adding even more fish.
I am more and more convinced that the guys you hired to pick it up at my house and deliver it to your place did not handle it with proper care.
Man, I feel guilty about this nightmare Steve.

This is why I would never use a large resealed tank, after having this problem years ago , sorry man sucks, I would recommend if you look to replace this that any tank over 150 gallons  use acrylic never heard of a leaker

Hey Steve,
I know this isn't much considering all you're dealing with right now but if you want me to hold on to any of your plecos here at my house I can make room for them including that big monster L 190 you just got from me. I can hold them here as long as you need me to....just say the word.

well........you could always use the glass to make several  " BIG " plywood tanks....there are companies that make plywood 1 1/2" think and 10'+ long..

Sorry to hear about your leak. I was excited for you when it finally held water, and I am sorry to hear the problem is back. I hope you can get it taken care of soon without too many more problems!

I appreciate the understanding from those that I was not able to pick up fish from. I really hate to stiff you guys on the fish like that.

I'm not sure what to do at the moment. Right now I feel like just selling off all my fish and tanks and getting out totally. The headache this has brought me over the past 2 years is just not worth it. It's a shame because the past 5 weeks the big tank has been up and running has brought me the most joy I can remember in years.

Is it possible to pickup a different tank of the same height and width, but perhaps only a 6' length (as those are much more common) and fill the wall in/cut the background down?

Most 6ft tanks are lower height than the 31" of the 7ft one. Then there's getting the old tank out, trying to lug another one down the stairs again. I just don't have it in me anymore to do it.

I'd see if Dan would do a house call and do a complete tear down on the tank clean that sombitch up and silicone it back together.

Tried that NUMEROUS times back in the fall. Sent Dan 4-5 emails as well as multiple phone messages over the course of 2-3 weeks time and I could not get him to even return one of them.

Yeah, 26" depth is what you'd have to down grade to (150 gallon) or 24" (180 / 125).
Sliding them down the stairs is easy. As for the old one, %@$# that thing - carry it out in pieces!  >:(

That's the plan. I plan to give it a little payback for all the pain it has caused me over the past 2 years.

Maybe he inadvertently made a glass tank with 6 solid panes of glass while sealing it from the inside  :o

Hey Steve,

Not sure if this is an option but I saw this the over day:

http://www.kijiji.ca/v-pets-other-items/city-of-toronto/265-gallon-aquarium-799-99-only-1-left-available-for-promotion/1049631542?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true (http://www.kijiji.ca/v-pets-other-items/city-of-toronto/265-gallon-aquarium-799-99-only-1-left-available-for-promotion/1049631542?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true)

Brand new 265 for 799 Canadian - since our dollar is at 80 cents right now that would be approx $645 US.  They are in Windsor ON - not sure how far away you are from the border but it might be an option.....

Sorry to hear of the leak....

Steve

Steve,

I'm so sorry!!!  I'm sad to say I know the feeling ... after my 125g developed a slow leak in December.  It's been leak-free, after my re-sealing, for about a month now and God-willing it will stay that way.

All the best!

BTW, here's a video I made of my long re-sealing "journey" that might be helpful for someone down the road ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dcfJ8SIZ6s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dcfJ8SIZ6s)
