Has anyone here ever tried making any sort of a DIY type power vacuum for cleaning deep aquariums?
I have one of these which although quality is cheap it does work well in principal http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aquarium-Battery-Syphon-Auto-Electrical-Fish-Tank-Vacuum-Gravel-Filter-Cleaner-/221637849834?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item339aa532ea the main issue I have with it (outher than not a quality product) is the length, it's short. I have to drop the water level down from 30" to about 12" to use it in the 265g tank. My water pressure at the house is not al that great so using my python WC'er can be a bit irritating at times.
So I was thinking of building something DIY style based on the same principal as the battery powered vac only using something like an inline pump like this for better suction so it will actually pick up waste and pull it through a 30" long tube so I don't have to drop the water level http://www.ebay.com/itm/141513063758?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
So just wondering is anyone here has tried anything like that or similar and had any success with it?
