Title: 265g office tank done pics
Post by: Steve on January 05, 2015, 04:40:54 PM
Spent the past few days finishing up the 265g tank. I will still be stocking a ton more fish slowly over the next couple months but I have finally finished up the tank and room itself. Stocked the 10" Venestus as well as 11" Champsochromis today. I didn't plan on adding them so soon but because of moving other fish in the other tanks they were getting pretty aggressive so I had to move them to the big tank. I'll just have to stay on top of daily water changes for the next few weeks since I added them now.

Some of the last things I finished over the past few days were finished up all the lighting work, and finished up the jungle/rock wall. I had some wood limbs that I had been drying for awhile out back which I stripped of bark and cut to fit into the wall so it looks like the branches are coming out of the wall and going into the ceiling as well as side wall. Added moss, vines and leaves and now have the full effect I wanted.

Once I get a chance I'll take some video and upload to show the fish better as well as to show the nice shimmer the big LED spotlighting gives off, but here's some finished pics for now. Nearly two years of work but well worth it now that it is finally finished!

you truly astonish me with the things you can create with your hands. from the custom fly rods, to the tank and background you made for the auction, to this masterpiece of a fish lovers wet dream. i dont think the word craftsmen quite sums up the artist that you are, this is absolutely amazing steve. I know you were close a time or two to throwing in the towel, but im glad to see the finished product. i think all of us fish nerds are happy to see this up and rocking.

He's being a complete D*%$ today  >:( He was in a 55g with 11 other fish for 5 months and had zero issues, now he's in a tank 6 times as big and he's got a real chip on his shoulder all the sudden. I'm really having to work today to try to get him to settle down some.

Yeah he is prly trying to eat the mbuna with him.  I throw mbuna in with mine so they leave each other alone

Actually he's not even paying attention to the smaller fish. He's zeroed in on the 10" Venustus for some reason and is just being relentless. I'm guessing he probably see's him as his biggest rival for the tank and is trying to assert his dominance.

Got the tank blacked out at the moment tryin to get him to......

Thankfully the Champsochromis has finally chilled out a bit now as of this morning. He was still a bit testy last night but today he seems to be more relaxed and he & the Venustus can actually occupy the same 2 square foot of tank space without trying to murder each other. Much more of a feeling of peace has fallen over the valley today ;D

Water parms are holding nicely as well. Things are looking good.

Watch him if you do plan on getting a chrysti I had problems with mine for a little bit when I moved them over to the 450.  Now they just pick off the mbuna I've thrown in.

Yeah I defiantly plan on a Chrysti soon, thanks for the heads up, when I do get one I'll be sure to keep close tabs on those two.

Good day today, picked up the 2nd 45g wheeled can for storing/aging water so now I can do 90g(30%) water changes using aged water. I also added a few more fish to help get the aggression down and it is fully under control now, almost to the point of being down right mellow now. Added my big male Dimidiochromis compressiceps and Dragonblood I had from a 55g tank. And Wayne stopped by and gave me a really nice bleekeri and a trio of 4" male Venustus so they are currently in the tank for the time being. Adding those really helped settle things down in a hurry. Thanks again Wayne 8)

Monitoring water parms very close still and they are right were I want them with 7.7ph, 0 nitrite, 5 Nitrate, do have .25ammonia but that is because it comes out my tap at that level (still waiting for a reply from the water dept on that one).

90g of water storage area

And a few more pics of the tank / fish in it now

Well just had to net my first fish out of this tank. My 6" spilonotus tanzania could not hang with the big boys so he's back in the 55g tank. Took me a full 15 minutes to finally get a net on him .....NOT FUN :o :o

I can imagine it'd be a pain with the net. Maybe DIY a temporary divider of some kind that can be slide in to help split the tank up to keep the fish from swimming around as large of a space?

Same here, I have a few tanks empty right now and I plan on re-stocking all of them there. Can't wait to see your tank after!

Just set up a 75g in the 265g's filter room as a q-tank for new fish. Bring on the auction! 8) ;D

How many fish do you have in there currently?

How many until you think it'd be "full"?

You mean in the 75g or the 265g? In 75g right now just the Livingstonii and a 6" pleco. I only moved two of the filters (bio wheel 280) and a smaller filter to the 75 for the moment, but I have two other extra filters running  on a tank with a dozen 4"-6" comets & koi in it which I will move over to the 75g once I get more fish from the auction, that way it will be able to support the bio load with the increased amount of fish during quarantine.

In the 265g currently there's about 12 cichlids, 10 Syno cats, 6 clowns and 3 plecos. Not sure how many more till I deem it full, but still a ways to go for sure.

In retrospect I did leave that ambiguous. My question was aimed at the display tank.
