Title: Filter Media Bags?
Post by: Ron on October 15, 2014, 03:15:58 PM
Anyone using bags to hold filter media?

Are you using bags sold specifically for the purpose or did you find something similar that works well? It seems to me that it shouldn't be expensive to purchase mesh bags, but I'm not sure what kind of store I would find such a thing at (non-fish stores ... AKA cheap mesh bags).

I use them in some of my HOB filters in the basement tanks. You can usually buy a pack of 3 for about $7 at LFS. Or womens nylons work good as well if you cut the toes out of them and use them as bags. Only problem then is Blair's tootsies might get cold this winter :-*  ;D

That seems pretty cheap. When I was looking online it was around $8-$10ea for 10"x16" or so.

I hadn't thought of that ... not sure I want to stand in line and endure funny looks at a store purchasing pantyhose.  :-[

The ones I got were for my HOB's so they were smaller. Can't remember exact size but something like 8-10" long and more of a tube size 3-4" across.
