Title: Oh the Possibilities!!!!
Post by: GrizzlysDad on September 10, 2014, 01:31:20 AM
Boy, think of the fun you could have just deciding what to stock in this beast!!!
In fact, post an individual reply for each idea you would come up with for stocking this imaginary tank.
The fun part is, you can create as many individual replies as you want. Kinda like you have an unlimited number of these huge tanks.  :o

Looks like a really cool tank. Not quite the deal you could find if you found an actual owner parting with a tank. It's not uncommon to see tank builders selling used aquariums. I presume it's easier for the original owner to sell it back to them and not deal with the general public and then the builders don't mind sitting on it a while until they find someone willing to spend a fair amount, which is still much cheaper than it'd be to order new I'm sure, but than the majority of CL tire kickers are willing to spend.

But the important point of this thread is to stock this "virtual" tank Ron  ;D. You can be given a pass though (temporarily  ;)) since you have a "reality" tank to come up with stocking ideas (even though it's tiny in comparison to our "virtual" tank  :P

No matter what size tank you have, someone else has one bigger, lol.

I'd be torn on what to stock it with. Part of me would want to do an african cichlid reef. If money were to no object, then a saltwater reef. And then another part of me thinks a bunch of "small fish" would be a waste of such a HUGE tank and instead would get some aros (and then probably some bigger catfish for the lower level of the tank).

See, that's why I mentioned you can "stock" each new reply with a different type of theme.

Assumption:  Money is infinite

1.  Calvus:  5 M/20 F
2.  Cyps:  About 25 (jumbo Variety maybe two kinds)
3.  Colony of shell Dwellers
4.  S. Petricola (or lucipinnis):  15 to 20

My reading comprehension first thing in the morning is apparently poor.  :-[

Idea #1...
6x Lepomis gibbosus
6x Lepomis microlophus
6x Pomoxis annularis
6x Micropterus salmoides
6x Ameiurus natalis
1x  Ictalurus punctatus
3x Lepisosteus oculatus

Perca flavescens would be nice too, but I'm worried there's a good chance they'd get eaten in time.

1.6 million Neon tetras lol

A really big discus tank would be awesome in that, but to fill that size with discus would cost a fortune. Although if someone can afford that tank they probably would have no problem buying a bunch of discus.

Money is unlimited in the "dream tank" world Steve.

Just get a bunch of fancy colored dinner plates and suspend them from fishing line at various depths. It'd be just like discus! Zing!  ;D

As much as I love malawians, I think I'd have to go with aros on a tank this size, and since we're talking hypothetically, they'd be asian aros.  :D Maybe add some big catfish for the lower 1/2 of the tank too.

A whole bunch of Kenyi and a decent sized group of auratus........let's see the nasty buggers kill each other off in that size tank.

Okay, as Ron pointed out, one of my ideas would be for a LOT of clown loaches.

I would design it as a river system with directional power heads for current flow and aquascape it with a whole lot of cool driftwood (visualize tangled roots) and a bunch of live plants such as giant vals.

Now stock it with about 75 large clown loaches and a couple hundred Tiger Barbs, and a couple hundred Denisoni Barbs.
