Title: Heater/heaters for 120 gallon tank.
Post by: Saulosi77 on August 06, 2014, 05:07:40 PM
I'm getting ready to set up a 120 gallon tank.  I was thinking about getting two jager 200w heaters.  Is that enough or what does everyone recommend?  I like the idea of two heaters in case one fails.  Also I don't want to fry my fish if one sticks on.  Just wondering what would be the perfect set up?  48"x24" 120 gallon.  Also anyone know of a good place to get glass lids to fit it?

Regarding the heaters, I think you may be able to go 175 watts each - depends on the ambient temp.  Just my two cents.

Highland Tropical has a guy that cuts lids down if they are too big.  Or if you can find the hinges and plastic finishers, go to a glass shop and have then cut the pieces - way cheaper.

I have a 135 and I use 2- 150w heaters with no problems.  Even with a tank that large on an outside wall of my living room.

I run that same heater set up in a 135 gallon with no problems.  I've had Steve at Great Lakes Aquariums make a few custom sliding glass tops for me in the past.  He will cut them to whatever size you need.
