So im wondering if anyone has purchased/raised/or breed Tilapia of any kind for human consumption. Any advice/help would be appreciated. Also where a good place to start or purchase some would be. Thanks in advance...

I've heard the Blue Tilapia are some of the best for food. They are supposed to grow fast and can take temps down into the 50's. I would also advise watching the nitrate levels closely if you are planning on eating anything you are raising.

GVAC had a teacher do a presentation on his set up that he uses in his science classes. He does tilapia and grows different types of vegetables in a hydroponic set up using the fish waste water for the nutrients. I can't remember his name, hopefully someone else from the West side of the state will remember his name and contact or school information. And yes he does eat the fish at the end of the year, after school is out so he doesn't have to share with the students, lol.
