I have a big job interview coming up on weds. I've been picking everyone's brains and trying to get as prepared as possible. If anyone has any advice I'm all ears. It's for a sales/service position for a company that represents numerous manufacturers to Menards/gander mountain/and many other stores. If I get this job all of michigan would be my territory. Thanks for any advice!

Also, learn as much as you can about the company and who they sell to. So you can answer questions about the companies with confidence.

To add to Ollie's comment, use your research about them to ask questions about their business to show interest

Make sure you're in business attire (suit and tie) and that it fits well and is cleaned and pressed.
Personal grooming - fresh haircut, use deodorant and make sure your breath is fresh. Do not use cologne or strong aftershave
Posture - Make sure you sit up straight. Do not cross your legs or arms.
Firm handshake! Don't try to break the interviewers hand, but don't imitate a wet noodle either.
Pay very close attention to what is being said. Sometimes you can get an idea of what they're looking for in a candidate just by paying attention to the questions.

#1 dont pee in the plants in their office... they usually frown on that.
#2 in my experience confidence goes further than any words you can say. With confidence you feel great and therefore you'll have better posture, and set a better foot forward.
#3 practice a few questions ahead of time that you may be asked so you already have an idea what you'll say. For instance, tell me about a project you've completed from start to finish. What are some of your strongest attributes/ what is something you need to improve upon.(hint: take every opportunity to talk yourself up including the steps you've already taken to improve your weak areas.)

This is huge. Show them you have a grasp on the company and what they do/are before hire will shows initiative and desire to succeed.
I'm not 100% sold on the suit and tie concept UNLESS its a suit and tie job. Most salesmen are quality polo shirt. khakis, nice matching belt and shoes. You come to me wanting to learn to be a professional painter in a suit and tie and I am not going to take you serious. IMO, dress nice but not too far above the jobs dress code.

Thanks everyone for the great advice looks like I've been preparing in all the right ways. I'll be sure to give and update when I get the job! (Let everyone know how the interview went). If I'll be traveling the state weekly looks like I'm going to have to get more tanks to meet everyone and pick up some more fish that I've been wanting. Thanks again.

I was talking about this job, by no means would I roll up to a job interview for a tradesman job in a suit and tie.
While the day to day uniform may be a polo shirt and khakis, you don't want to take a chance and be under dressed for the interview. This is a position that likely involves a lot of money in sales, especially if you're talking about selling to Menard's and Gander Mountain. Their volume is huge.

x2. I've been on both sides of the table a number of times and there's nothing wrong with accidently over-dressing, but under-dressing could hurt the interview from the get-go. That's not to say you couldn't overcome that with the remainder of the interview, but it'd be an upwards battle.

That's a good question for getting a feeler on if you got the job or not, but if things are going well in the interview I'm not sure you'd want them to spend more time thinking about the negatives.
Also prepare for any questions about your strengths as it relates to the job, any weaknesses (try to find some things that are weaknesses, but aren't really weaknesses or significant weaknesses), and why you've either left previous employment recently or been unemployed (or are currently at a job, but looking for something better).
Also remember, this is your chance to interview them just as they are interviewing you. From my perspective, people don't normally approach it this way, but make sure the job is what you think it is, you'll fit into their work culture, etc. I've turned down some opportunities after being interviewed because of these reasons.

I just want to add to the confidence... this is huge. Go in like you have them job already and this is just a formality.
Also, if they ask you something that you are not qualified for, or have not done before... make sure come across with the attitude that you are in now way worried about not knowing that... and that you can, and will, pick up on it real fast.
