It should be called Michigan African Cichlid Association. MACA for short. At least it wouldn't sound so misleading that way....

I don't know why this misconception persists. I personally have the following at the moment:
Vieja synspilum
Parachromis dovii
Acarichthys heckelli
Amphilophus altifrons
Orinoco pikes
Herichthys carpintis Escondito
The only way you're going to get more New World people here is to talk up the site and post pics!

I'm busy with work, the club, and the board.
If you look at my post history, I'm spending more time responding to topics than I am starting them.
Additionally, i suck at taking fish pics, so I have to take a million of them, which goes back to time.
Since this is your primary area of interest, how about you step up and make us stronger in the New World area?

My plan after returning to the site was to stay out of any heated topics so I could keep my blood pressure down.
And I am not trying to "heat" anything up here either.
But back when I was the VP and on the Board I would always try to point out to a person that had a complaint is that the only way to make changes is to get involved personally.
So what Marty suggests about someone that passionately keeps New Worlds stepping up is a great piece of advice, not a slam or criticism.
Just MHO.

ok let me get this straight ...so we have to do the foot work for the site to be good????....How long has MCA been around?..I think i will just stick over at GLA....least there some love over there ...
How boring would this site be if I did all of the posting? It's a community, which means we have a shared responsibility to make it better, it's not just the Admin, moderators, or Board of Directors.
If you feel like you aren't getting enough attention here, I don't know what to tell you, but it's not as if this club hasn't done it's part to promote New Worlds. We've even brought in speakers giving talks on New Worlds, a couple of examples off the top of my head - Rusty Wessel and Spencer Jack. We're looking at bringing in more, which will be announced when they're confirmed.

i guess the fella don't wanna step up...too bad..it looks like there are some good threads about new world cichlids here..
but we could always use more and also some new ones.
just my 2 cents worth..

A shame that someone can just complain... but do nothing else.
