Just started building the stand and the canopy today... sanding and stain tomorrow hopefuly. LED Lighting is ordered and on the way... My 11yr old twins being helpful as usual.
Quick question for you guys though, what kind of paint do you use on your tanks.. I normally just use plain old krylon flat black, Is there something betting that will not need 50 coats to cover?
-
I used a cheap black latex. Use a sponge roller. Two coats made it pitch black.
-
I was worried about Latex peeling or rubbing off.. the acrylic spray paint is pretty tough. Have you had any issues with it bubbling or peeling?
-
No issue of peeling. If u wanted to remove it, it scrapes off easy once started, but you have to deliberately start it on purpose. I believe this being an advantage incase a couple large scratches occur u can flip it
-
cool, I will give it a try...thanks
-
stain and sanding done, time to check for leaks.....Time to make some rocks.
-
I like the stain color...mahogany, red oak?
-
bombay mahogony polyshades.
-
Cool thought it had that dark red mahogony look to it. Looks good bud I like it. What's the stock gonna be?
-
Looks nice, I'm really digging that stain.
-
Probably haps and peacocks... little bit if everything If I can get my venustus and moorii to play nice in there too... I was originally thinking frontosa because I have a bunch of small juv's in a 55 right now, but I think I will wait until they are bigger. The tank would look empty with a handful of them swimming around.

Almost done, I can see the finish line in sight.... Finished installing the LED lights, Corallife 36w UV Sterilizer and power strips... The back ground is painted, I normally do all black on all my tanks, but I changed it up a bit on this one... I'm not sold on it yet, but my wife and kids love it...I will wait and see when the sand and rocks are in. Final water test for a couple days before I tear it down and bring it in the house....I have to admit after reading Steve's horror story I'm a bit scared.
Thanks Rickie, the latex paint worked great!

I'd like to stop by and check out your set ups sometime...
-
Finished and installed... Needs more fish though...

Loooooks awesome. I am huge fan of black backgrounds. Glad I could help.
-
Absolutely stunning!! GJ Bremmon!
-
I couldn't decide on blue or black so I went with the fade job....
-
Looks really nice, glad the leak test went better than mine did :-X lol. Nice looking Moorii too.

Hate that damn Moorii.. between him and my fusco.... Moorii is turning into a bully and my fusco keeps eating all my loose fry.
