Title: Cichlids in Florida, Advice on where to visit/ purchase
Post by: rcombs on January 27, 2014, 03:24:41 PM
Getting ready to take my 2 week vacation from 2013. Kinda late. I am going to Florida. Does anyone know of any good cichlid shops or cichlid farms that are neat to visit/ purchase from. I have heard of seagrest but sometimes the fishes health are sacrificed by moving as many fish in a day as they do. Anyone have experience near Punta Gorda. If its a little drive that is fine. Thank you.

I have bought fish from Billy at Cichlid Express which is in Daytona Fl. I ordered online and have not visited the shop before but they have a really nice variety online and raise fish on site as well as have a storefront so I would say to check them out for sure if you will be in that area http://www.cichlidexpress.com/

Mike does, I visited him last year and will again in a few months.  Just have to set it up ahead of time.  Mike and Jen are great and will accommodate you if possible.

I visited them last year and to be honest, wasn't really impressed.  Could have just been the time that I was in there.

I figured it would be a nice place Josh, never been there myself but they always have a vast inventory online and the fish I got were beautiful. Billy seems super knowledgeable so I guess I just expected it to be a good place to go too. Did they not have a lot of fish when you were there or was it something else?

Didn't really have a lot of fish at the time and was restricted to what they would show me, which I can understand, but was hoping for more fish in the store.

Air cargo ;)

X3 on the Mike & Jen recommendations.  Great people

If you're looking for New Worlds,  then get over to Tampa & get with Gage Brady &/or Dan Sharif.  (Cichlid Connection & Cichlids of the America's)
