Hey! New to the site (duh!). Bought a great Fluval filter from JeffroM and he told me about the site. Have kept a community tank for about year and a half. Just picked up a 55gal tank (to go with my great new filter), now Im looking for ideas on tank set up. I have always liked real plants (atleast a few of them), so I am hoping to keep a few in the new tank. Any ideas for tank set up would be appreciated. Sand vs rock? Fluorite for plants still ok with Cichlids? Thanks in advance for the advice!

Welcome to the site. There are cichlids that will appreciate an planted tank, and there are those that will tear it to shreds. The internet is full of advice (some good / some bad) but you will find that asking questions, reading and determining what works for you is the best route to take. Wish you luck with your new setup and remember to post pictures often, haha.

Welcome! You'll find that the Fluval 405 that Jeff was selling are great filters for 55gal tanks. The 305's work pretty well also.
