This person has made some good points. I don't believe the Tigers are going to be a serious contender in 2014...I think they may finish in 2nd-or-3rd. giving up Peralta was a "mistake" and trading Fister was unwise.  >:(  Castellanos is Not going to be a good power-hitter...provided he gets any hits at all. He reminds me of Auto-Out-Avila and Doesn't Hit Dirks. etc. Contenders-NOT-is my opinion. Just a runner-up and perhaps for some time.  :(

I personally think we are going to be better than we were last year myself. The reason why is ask yourself this, how many games did we lose last season by only 1 run? I honestly don't know the exact number off hand but it was a good number of games where we lost by 1 run. Those 1 run games are won by "small ball", stealing bases, bunting a runner over, putting on the squeeze to get that run home. Those were all things that we had zero of last year. We relied on the long ball in every game and the problem with that is if contact is made then yeah you get a couple runs off it, but more often than not it was swing and miss and the side is out. Plus 40% of the season last year was Cabby playing with a torn groin. I liked Fister but with our rotation as well as guys like Smiley being underutilized by the ol' coot last year who now can see more action than just 1 batter I believe the pitching will be just as good as it was last year for sure. Cabby is going to be 100%, we have speed now, we have guys that will steal and bunt, and our infield is MUCH stronger than it was in 2013.
So personally I feel we are going to win the division again this year, and it will be done by good smart baseball and not just guys trying to knock it out of the park.

Here is a good analogy,  Who thought the Wolverines were going to go to the Championship game, who thought the Spartans were going to win the rose bowl with 13 victories?  No one !  The season will have to play it self out,  both of you bring up good points, but IMO I am leaning more with Steve.  The Tigers will be able to manufacture more runs this year and that will put more W's in the win column which should lead to another division championship.  The key next year will be if our pitchers stay healthy.  If we lose a pitcher then it will be that much tougher...IMO !
