Is it possible to have a lemon jake or eureka in a 55gallon tank or should I stay with the smaller 5" variety peacocks. Also with the tank over filtered, whats everyone's thoughts on how many fish in an all male tank? I know everyone says 1" per gallon... Thanks for any input. I've been looking and really want to get a blue regal, a German red/or eureka, a lemon jake/benga, are there any bright orange peacocks? I'm trying to put together a bright colorful tank. Any suggestions?

55g makes a good peacock tank. This is my 55g all male peacock/hap tank http://michigancichlid.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?topic=3679.0 my Lemon Jake is no trouble at all in the 55. 99% of the time all the fish get along very well. I have 12 4.5" to 6" peacocks/haps in there plus four cats and some small bnp's. Only trouble makers in there believe it or not seem to be the cats every once in awhile :o Every few weeks there will be a catfish rumble for a few minutes lol

Awesome inspiring tank you have. Your fish and selection look great! Looks exactly how I would like mine too. Thanks for the info. I really like your 3d backgrounds! I'm going to have to try one on my next tank.

They do?! :o
Personally, I think it's a poor idea and doesn't work well in any species in all situations.
In an overfiltered 55 with smaller haps/peacocks, 10-16 fish IMO. If you're starting out with smaller fish, you can go a little higher and weed out the ones you grow to dislike or cause trouble as they grow up.

I'm no where near as experienced as others here but I totally agree with Ron about the 1" per g "rule". Everytime I am in a LFS/petshop and I hear an employee telling someone "1" per gallon is the rule" it always makes me cringe :-X That "rule" doesn't take into account aggression, filtration, or individual fish size so try not to use that rule.

not a good rule to use imo. that's like saying that it would be ok to put a 15" fossorochromis rostratus in a 15 gallon tank when in reality that fish needs a MUCH bigger tank

I think the 1" per gallon is geared toward community tanks.
Cichlids need to be overstocked and overfiltered.
