It is C saxitillis, they are wild ones caught in Uruguay by Ken Davis. I kept them in unheated tanks last year and put them in the pond last summer, they are in the 500 gal kiddy pool in my unheated basement at the moment. Hoping the serious cooldown will inspire some spawning this spring.

The male quilero are quite stunning aren't they, they also go outside for the summer and are cooling down in the basement for the winter. No fry in the pond from them this lat summer, but the summer before had plenty. They would spawn in very shallow water, only inches deep.

IS that a pool you have setup mixed with koi 8)

Yes, because both my ponds freeze solid in winter, the koi and cichlids overwinter together. In spring, summer and fall they have separate ponds.
