Hi,
Is anyone breeding the genus Gymnogeophagus? I would like 5 or 6 for a 90 gallon planted community tank.

Any specific ones you have in mind? There's several.
There's a guy over in Indiana who pops on periodically (and sells under the name tiedyeman on Aquabid): http://michigancichlid.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?topic=1497 - IIRC he's had some gymnos before.
I assume you're wanting to buy more local to you though? I'd talk to Fins depending on what other responses you get. Djlamonica had some in the past but I'm not sure about now. There's not a ton of people breeding New Worlds because the demand tends not to be there for fry.

I like balzanni. They have some on aquabid now, but winter makes for tough shipping. Also, it is nice to meet a breeder.

I really enjoy this group but I did recently sell the majority of mine to make some room as my fish room is very tight. the only ones I currently have are rio olimer a trio of breeding size but I plan to keep them. Defiantly check out the auction the oyers and few others usually bring all kinds of eartheaters. Balzani are a bit scares around here though for some reason I had a small group but I sold them a few auctions ago. I will defiantly be trying them again though.

G balzani (as would all Gymnos and Uruguyans) are some of the best cichlids to have shipped at this time of year. They easily tolerate cool temps, so if the package was delayed, the stress would be lessened. I keep my balzani in unheated tanks on a north wall in Milwaukee, and keep my Gymno quilero in a pond here, spring thru Oct, where water temps dip into the mid 40sF. They actually look better and healthier held a few months at non tropical temps.

Oyers have Gymogeophagus (Rio Olimar and Elnorte)

i acquired some Gymno sp paso pache fro Oyers a few yrs back at one of the Chicago ACAs, they were fabulous, here's a pic of those fish.

Being only around 5"+ adult size I have used 50s, 60s, and 75 gal tanks.
The males can get pretty pushy in smaller tanks, and I like to keep them in harems of 3-4 females for each male.
The balzani are 2 males and 4 females in a 60 gal with some Uruguayan corys (C erhardti).
There is a larger group of Gymno quilero so last winter they were in a 125 with red ceibals and Uruguayan pike cichlids,

this year they are in a 500 gal kiddy pool in the basement with the above, plus overwintering koi and goldfish.
