Hey all! Stumbled across this site while doing some searching on African cichlids. I've been seriously in the aquarium hobby for about 7 years, prior to that it was just a 30 gallon aquarium here and there. Now we have a 180 Oceanic in our living room wall that I had dedicated to plants. Then about 3 years ago started into discus.
Well we're on well water, hard as a rock (350ppm) with a pH around 8-8.5, anyhow, after plumbing in RO my luck with discus was just so so. So now I'd like to try another largish colorful fish and I think cichlids are the way to go. All the plants you see in the photo are now gone and my aquarium has nothing but substrate and large round river rocks with 10 or so Kribs to keep the bio load going.
Looking forward to asking lots of questions!
Cheers
Aaron

Cichlids are a lot of fun. You will get hooked like its a drug. That's one heck of a planted tank. What was your technique/ secrets to such beautiful plants. Did you use co2 or fertilizers?

Thanks for the comments! Yep, CO2 injection, relatively high light and dosing dry fertilizers.

What did you do to measure healthy level of co2. What fertilizers. I'm looking to learn planted tanks. If you could post on the thread "how to use co2" in the general discussions. Thanks :)
