I finally was able to get a big tank, I found this 180 gallon complete setup on CL and couldn't pass it up. The guy was getting out of the hobby and was selling it well below market prices. It included the tank, canopy, stand, FX5, glass tops, heaters, decor, driftwood and all his fish and supplies. I picked up the tank last Saturday, spent all day setting it up and loaded it with fish on Sunday. Here are some pics while setting it up and after adding the fish. I hope you like it !

I had to install a utility tub in the basement in order to be able to do WC's. I also hooked up my DIY water changer and used it to fill up the tank. Worked perfectly !
-
Very nice, I love my 180, enjoy yours!
-
Im searching for a large tank too. Just missed out on a 235 for $1,000 stand canopy and accessories. Waiting for it to pop up on here lol that someone else bought it lol.
-
Nice. Those fish look to be good sized too.

Fantastic!
I can only dream of a tank that big, or at least live vicariously through those of you that have them :D

Timing is everything, I have been waiting since June to get a bigger tank. Once the $$ became available, I started really looking on CL and just happened to find someone who was getting out of the hobby. We talked back and forth until we both agreed on a price. I chalk it up to being in the right place at the right time...
The fish were in my existing tanks, I plucked the best looking fish to put into this Show Tank ! I am very happy with how it turned out.
Now the fun begins again as I can now start looking to re-stock my other tanks..
The chase is half the fun, you get to meet some great people and learn for each one.
-
Awesome deal, You got,
-
Looking good!

Dunno how I missed this for the past few days :o Nice tank bud that's a great size. Any other plans for it such as stock?

Thanks - I filled the tank with my existing fish, there are roughly 20 fish in there right now, I do plan on getting some additional fish but I am going to be very selective..
I posted a wish list of the fish I am interested in so we will see what turns up...
-
If I can be so bold... Can I make a recommendation?
Move your FX5 sprayers to the left side of the tank. The hob will get the right side moving.
-
I have since added a couple of other things, a wave maker and another filter...
My goal is to create a cyclonic effect in the tank where all the fish waste is pushed to the FX5 filter....
The FX5 output moves the middle of the tank, the wave maker moves the front of the tank, the other FX5 output pushes the water around the wave maker off the side glass and back into the wave maker flow..
The main purpose of the two HOB filters is to agitate the surface of the water, their flow is secondary...

Love the redtail shark. Think that may influence me to get one :D

I couldnt believe how well mine fit in my tank. Like it was meant to be.
-
Be careful my daughter forced me to get one as well for my 180 tank, unfortunately it now chases the weakest fish in the tank to the point where the fish only stays up in the corner. I have removed 3 fish from the tank and put them in with smaller fish to get them colored up again do to this...

Lookin good. Got some nice looking fish in there.

Does he have a couple of good places to hide?
Red Tail Sharks are know for aggressive behavior and lack of hiding places is a big trigger for this.
Could also be you got a jerk fish too.
-
Mine has tons of hiding places. Maybe why I dont have an issue?

Now here is a fish that came with the tank, not quite sure what it is, but I think it is a Regal Blue can anyone verify this ?
-
That doesn't look anything like Blair!

If you look closely, it is very rough around the edges, it antagonizes the other fish constantly and I swear he smells just like a goat ! :P

It looks like a bio color.

Doesn't the Geo require different water parameters?

Doesn't the Geo require different water parameters?
You know I did not even ask that question, when I was at the Oyers all I said is what else do you have that would go with Peacocks and Haps and Betty suggested the Geo's so I bought them...
Someone - Please let me know if I made a mistake...

Its only a mistake if it dies. ;D
They are south american... which is a lower pH and softer water.

Betty told me the species 44 were ok with peacocks. A little rowdy for the peacocks.

In my experience if you are asking someone about mixing a fish you are about to buy from them 8 times out of 10 they will tell you yes just to get the sale. Not bashing anyone so don't take it that way. Its better to go into it know about what you want then having a crap shoot.
-
So far the Geo's are doing great ! It been almost 3 months since I set up the 180 tank and damn if I'm not allready getting the itch to add more tanks. What is wrong with me ! I would have thought a 180 would have satisfied my thurst...
-
When it comes to water parameters.. the Geo will be fine. That's why all of the fish I have I simply use tap water. I keep it simple. It just makes it easier on the next person in line that ends up with some of my fish..
Now, don't get me wrong I understand that certain fish "require" certain water conditions so you need to take that into consideration. I have kept Geos with just about anything, and just short of the rowdiest of the SAs, CAs, and Africans, they have done very well..

After seeing your tank I think I will go ahead and add a Frontosa. I have been thinking of one with my peacocks and haps and after seeing it in yours I am giving it a try. Nice tank btw

Yeah he is doing real well, but I have been warned by some people that Fronts can get a mean streak in them, so I have been trying to keep him happy and not let him go too long without a feeding. Thank you.
Oh BTW - I just moved more fish into the 180 from by two grow out 55 tanks. My plan is working out nicely, buy small, grow out in (2) separate 55's and move to the 180 when ready. I moved a very nice Aulonocara stuartgrandi Regal Blue, Protomelas Haplochromis Ovatus, Cynotilapia Afra White Top..
, electric yellow, white top afra,
